Rather than squeeze an area for makeup and grooming into the bathroom I put it just outside, in the passage connecting the master bedroom with the master dressing room. A mirrored shelf six feet long and fourteen inches deep set into a mirrored alcove makes a large and elegant dressing table, with room to store bulky items underneath it behind the skirt. In this location is is very convenient and occupies space that would otherwise have been usable only for shallow storage.
With mirror also on the opposite wall this becomes a literal hall of mirrors, displaying reflections and reflections of reflections into the infinite distance.
Mirror is very powerful but must be used with care and a clear understanding of how it works for a good effect. Here it gives a great feeling of spaciousness, light, and sparkle to a small and windowless space -- as well as serving the functional needs of a makeup area.
